Marcella M. McCormack is a native of Morgantown, West Virginia. She is a graduate of West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science in Family Resources. She also earned a Master of Professional Studies Degree in Hotel Administration from Cornell University.
Ms. McCormack was commissioned an Ensign in the Medical Service Corps of the U.S. Navy in 1979 and served in numerous capacities as Food Service Officer, Clinical Dietitian, Director of Research and Officer in Charge at Naval Activities including National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD; Naval Hospital, Jacksonville, FL; Naval Hospital, Guantanemo Bay, Cuba; Naval Hospital, San Diego, CA; Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, VA and Naval Training Center, San Diego, CA.
Completing a 20-year career as a Commander in 1999, Ms. McCormack was appointed in January 2000 as the first woman Administrator of the Veterans Home of California in Yountville in its 116-year history. She is currently responsible for the care of 1100 Veteran members, the administration of 1200 staff personnel, 500 acres and 55 buildings of physical property and a budget in excess of $68 million.
In addition to numerous personal decorations from her illustrious Naval career, Ms. McCormack is a member of the American College of Healthcare Administrators and a registered Dietitian of the American Dietetic Association. She is also a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans and AMVETS. She is a member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America, the American Legion and the Retired Officers Association. She has spoken at Rotary, Kiwanis and other fraternal organizations in Napa Valley.
Ms. McCormack is married to Tom Madden, a Navy Veteran of 25 years of active service. They have two children, Kathleen who is 14, and Patrick, 12. They reside at the Veterans Home.
The Pathway Home is an activity of Tides Center, a nonprofit public charity that exists to support existing and emerging projects that share our vision of a just, healthy, and sustainable world. Tides Center projects effect change daily in the areas of social justice, economic development, civic engagement, environmental sustainability, environmental justice, human rights, community development, international affairs, and nonprofit capacity building, among others.
Some of Tides Center’s projects begin with the goal of eventually becoming independent nonprofit organizations; some work with us in order to accomplish a discrete goal or endeavor, then close operations; others choose to remain a part of Tides Center indefinitely. Projects vary in size from a single dedicated volunteer to a staff of hundreds, and are located all over the nation.
The Tides Center is exempt from Federal income tax under Sections 501(c)3 and 509(a)1 of the Internal Revenue Code.
